Crop to Cup
Kenya neighbours Ethiopia, considered the birthplace of
coffee, and
both share a similar elegant acidity. Kenya sits along the
Equator where most high quality coffees are grown. Its coffee
trees grow in rich volcanic soil, on slopes of high elevation.
Its
Arabica beans exhibit an exceptionally bright acidity, a quality prized
by professional coffee cuppers and roasters alike.
Coffee trees
were first cultivated in Kenya in the late 19th century; the first crop
reaped was in Kibwezi near Mombasa in 1896. Today Kenya is
recognized for producing some of the most complex and most
sophisticated varietals. As a well respected coffee producer,
they are well known throughout the world for their high standards in
farming. With government support, they have some of the most
stringent standards for producing quality coffee.
